We have had this occur a few times. Typically the black also occurs during games. The first time we replaced the video card and all was fine. Another time it turned out to be the monitor. Still a third time replacing the monitor and video card did no good and we eventually found out there was a problem with the acpi on the motherboard and we had to do a bios update. You have to be careful flashing the bios of course so approach it with care. I would start with doing the bios update (if any exist) for the motherboard since that can be done free of charge and with little hassle. If the problem still exists, follow up with swapping out the monitor with another one in the same office, then move on to trying a new video card. I always go easiest to most time consuming if possible when troubleshooting :o)
