Thanks for the solutions. I fell prey to one of the oldest mistakes in the book. :-)

When I was testing for the problem I originally posted - and the one Sergey answered for me -- I left VFP8 up and running with the Samples database open and exclusive -- Therefore the failure of executing the other code. As soon as I closed out the DBC - all ran fine in the .NET app. I would not of noticed this right away - except I went to check on the fields per Bonnie's comment - and found that I could not open the DBC - duh.
