I have no idea of the cause, Cecil, but I want to say that Windows' "Not responding" is OFTEN just a little too impatient (because it is based on induction rather than deduction).

I now have, since I mapped a drive to a far away site that usually is not accessible, a 90-120 seconds wait just to open a new directory when doing a Word2003 SaveAs, and the good old Task Manager shows "Not responding" but it ultimately does come up with the new list.

Poor design in that Windows doesn't know that something is being waited for, only that nothing has happened in that program for X seconds.

>I don't know why but with VFP 8 SP1 and also VFP 9 Beta, each of these VFP versions hangs and when you bring up the task manager, it says "not responding". I can't figure out why this happens, or how to stop it from happening.
