>I was wise enough to grab a reply from an old thread that described how to hide the main FoxPro window (_Screen.Hide)... something I had been trying to do since I started using VFP5. So now I can hide it when I want an SDI, but do I have to have it at all? Seems like a waste of memory to me. (Apologies if this is a stupid question 8^)

Paul,
Just to put my 2 cents in here, and some of what I'm about to write is strictly a guess or opinion.
The reason, I think that the _SCREEN situation is the way it is, is because the vast majority applications being developed required MDI. I'm not speaking of using VFP as a middle tier component or OLE server, but rather a full blown application. In my own work, MDI applications outnumber SDIs by about 10 to 1. I'm not suggesting that this ratio is common everywhere, but that it does reflect that MDI apps are in the vast majority.
