John,
>>Wrong. It goes to motivation and the desire for constant improvement. It is a valid question.
OK, I'll bite.
Getting a degree certainly implies motivation.
But historically, getting a degree is more often a cue for ceasing striving than a sign that it is ongoing.
And a certificate on the wall has nothing to do with whether somebody has a valid viewpoint. I have 14 letters after my name, which would presumably give me supremacy in this thread when it comes to the "gongs and degrees" department, but I'm telling you that getting degrees has *zero* connection with validity of opinion. Which yields a paradox- since I have the most qualifications, I must be correct about that... right? ;-)
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
