There are people for whom VFP is always the best choice. There are people for whom dotNET is always the best choice. I'm completely neutral toward both groups. I only comment when I see dotNET people acting superior, as if they are some sort of high-fiveing, sickeningly self-satisfied elite that has "seen the light" while those who stick with VFP are lumpen dullard slouches.

I don't have a problem with people who think VFP is always the best choice - as long as they don't swipe at people who think .NET is a better choice than VFP. The people I refer to are so insecure about the state of affairs of Fox - they will go to any lengths to silence other points of view.

I don't see .NET people as acting superior. What I do see is .NET people defending against attacks by VFP-Folk who continually refer to .NET as .NOT. These VFP-Folk tend to get frustrated easily becuase there arguments are not very sound. And - they don't like the fact that as each day goes by, yet another VFP project is getting converted or another VFP developer has jumped ship.

There is no business or intellectual basis for that conceit, and if unchallenged it does a great disservice by drawing the community towards FUD and "Emperor's Clothes" thinking. So from pure selfishness I speak up, as do quite a few others who are better educated about dotNET than you might think but choose to rely on VFP in many cases.

But John - the problem is that you are not being even-handed. You never challenge the VFP is best and .NET sucks crowd that attack people who advocate tools other than Fox. You seem to either turn a blind eye and/or give these people a free pass. Take Bill Sanders for example. Because of my opinions - he openly advocated to have me banned from every Fox online forum.

Go back through the archives - and you will find that without exception, it was sombody else chucking the barbs my way before I got hostile. It all goes back to when I was an MVP and I started knocking other MVP's for giving what was bad advice. That is where the "JVP Bad Boy" rep came into being. At first, I tried being nice - gently telling people that what they were recommending - was not a good practice. That did not work - so I had to be little more forceful. I make no appologies for that. The UT - technically - became a better place. The water shed event was Steve Black - coming at me with full force - over my advocacy of other tools to work with Fox and at times - to work in place of Fox. My position was to help those Fox developers who were having difficult times finding Fox work. To those people, I advocated that they should learn something else. And, given that all trends in the Fox world were down - any developer that only had Fox in their toolbox - they too should learn something else. Whether they did or did not - I did not care. I only cared when they told others that to follow my advice - they were foolish. The most graphic example was Steve Black - labeling people like me, Rod, Max, etc. - as being intellectually dishonest because of our advocacy of .NET.

There is a lot of history John - which you are all too aware of.

>Yes, that is probably true. Time for me to look in the mirror. I apologize.

Glad you can see that.

You are a smart guy - and I am not just saying that. You have good insights. And if I do say so myself - so do I. Indeed, reasonable people can differ. The key is, both sides have to be reasonable.
