As part of my new product, I want to have the user enter a SQL userId and a SQL password and a server, so I can write these keys to the app.config file.

But I would like to test the connection first. Is there a way in MM to do this fast versus going the MS way of creating a connection string and trying to open a connection.

What I would really like is to have a user enter this info and then I try the connection if it fails tell the user the info supplied doesn't work.
If it passes write the keys to the file encrypted of course.
