Beth,

I think Coverage Profiler is a good option to review performance concerns in code of that complexity. Check out the VFP online help where there is a good overview and some instructions.

I'd also suggest that you review VFP's TEXTMERGE facility as it may offer you a more readable and maintainable system as well as eliminating any performance issues that can arise when larger strings are manipulated.

Re Remote Views: I accept you do not use them, but was suggesting a one-off use of a RV to review the parameterized SQL it creates. The SQL from a RV is compiled once by SQL Server and cached for further use so that performance can match a compiled Stored Procedure. The SQL passed to SQL Server is also SQL-injection-proof. Both are desirable and easily included.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
"
