If you give me some examples of the non standard things you want to do with report variables I might be able to come up with a way to do it.

The basic problem I was ran into was that I needed to have some of the report variables to be assigned before that point (i.e. they needed to be assigned for the purposes of the group headers as well as detail band items). I fiddled with the On Entry and On Exit, but haven't found much success (values aren't being evaluated when I need them to be -- i.e. on each record, before any headers are processed). Doesn't help much that there are multiple levels of groupings, along with various page break conditions (determined at runtime).
