It's not... it gives you the "\...\" in the directory name (*), which is just plain useless. Plus the extra lines.

I tried the same thing with getfile(), got no action at all with no file selected, and chr(0) in the _cliptext with a file selected.

(*) - update: it took me about 20 minutes to remember which function did I have in mind. Searched all the functions in the help and finally found it: DisplayPath(). The "\...\" is what it gives when the string is longer than the limit set in the second parameter.
