Excuse me, but Doug specifically said in that message "that assumes the CDX file is in perfectly good shape". He points out that he has never experienced the PACK command causing a problem, and neither have I, but that's not what we're discussing here. We're discussing REINDEX. I never said that REINDEX could CAUSE a problem, just that it wouldn't FIX a problem you already had with the index header.

And in the thread you quoted, Doug does say that he recreates the index tags rather than using REINDEX.
