The UT is moderated and as a business, which brings together software developers to ask questions and provide answers, it has a value to many of its participants. Not everyone wishes to behave or obey the rules. Some people may occasionally stretch the rules a bit but not on a constant basis. Others may wish to express his/her ego and importance as well as belittle others. People participate in Internet forums for a number of reasons. Not everyone uses a forum for the intended purpose. In fact some individuals have his/her agenda!

One of my interests in life is Flamenco Guitar. I have had some of the worlds best teachers from Spain and played for well-known flamenco singers and dancers. I bring up this fact as the Internet has had a number of flamenco forums, moderated and not. The intent of these forums is to exchange information, ask questions, give advice and shoot the bull – much like the UT.

Four of the flamenco forums I have belonged to have shut down because the management/owner did not take action to provide a civil environment. Cursing, threats to the lives of others, and a number of anti social acts were occurring from only a few members. In each case the owner of the site ended up shutting down permanently.

I applaud Michel and his staff for managing this forum. If they did not it could be shut down or loose participation of its members. The choice to obey the rules, and act in a civil manner is up to the individual. The right to manage the UT is up to Michel! Together this forum will either flourish or dissolve.

Tom
