Do these remote views have parameters?
It sounds to me like what you've done is simple replace tables with remote views. That's probably not going to work too well because the remote views will be requerrying ALL the records for each table.
If you make some parameterized remote views, you can join tables together in the views to establish relationships....of course you can do this without using parameters, but you'll be having that 'molasses' problem....
