Kevin,
>>All I can relay are my own experiences, and that over the last year I've spoken with more and more people who have had similar experiences.
I'm quite sure your experience is shared by a vast congregation, many of whom will be consultants like you who have made or are contemplating a move to Java or Python or dotNET or wherever they see the best consultancy revenue. Message received loud and clear!
>>I don't recall using specific words that convey a complete dismissal of other experiences.
I don't recall using specific words to accuse you of that. ;-) My issue is that we endure frequent and often well-meaning attempts to educate the lumpen masses, based on an assumption that the would-be tutor's perspectives and experience are prevalent and that those who differ need to be shown the light. In extreme cases we even see posters characterizing themselves as scorned prophets like John the Baptist. I wish people would accept that the gifts of grace and intellect come from God, not just because somebody selected the latest development tool. I've expressed this same message in at least ten different ways now, so I'm happy to leave it there if you like.
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us."
-- Shakespeare: Coriolanus, Act 1, scene 1
