>I'm sort of worried. The day before yesterday I asked what the status of the Codemine Beta was, and sent a message to SoftClassics. I've not received an answer in either place. Is there still anyone actively using this product, and is it viable?
It's probably normal that you don't receive answers as fast as you used to from Dave. If he's investing a lot of his time on a new version it's understandable.
For the part about using it. I'm sad to say that I have not been able to use it lately. The reason is that I have been working on an app for a while. To start with, the app. was made by somebody else and was'nt built with a framework. So when I'm finished with it I'll probably look again at CodeMine and evaluate what would be the best thing to do.
Big decisions will have to be taken.
Will I transport that app to .Net
Will I still improve it without CodeMine.
Will I transport it to the newest version of CodeMine.
Right now there are many reasons why CodeMine would make sense. Unless .Net changes a lot I don't see a need to use it. This should'nt be interpreted as .Net not being good enough. It's just that VFP to me is still the best tool for what I have to do. To me it's not a matter of evaluating the evolution of the market. So until there's a major reason I'll stick with the fox.
So short term analysis tends toward the Fox. I'll watch closely at what's going on with CodeMine. I just hope that I won't be too rusty getting back to it if I decide to go that way <g>
But even if I'm rusty I know that there are experienced developers here on the UT that use it.
But as the last word I'd say that deciding to use a tool depends on what you do for a living. What kind of apps you build...
