Some PCs don't work right with cable select and some don't when the jumpers and the cables don't match (such as: cable says slave, but the jumpers say master) Rare, but I have seen it.

If you are 100% sure that the cables and drives on the jumpers didn't change that makes little sense though. Maybe you always had these conflicting signals and you did a bios or some other update that made it see the differences for the first time.

I'd make sure the jumpers on the HD is set to master and the cable port used is the last one (master for cable select). I doubt if the HD is bad.
