Hi Hank,

>I assume you are aware of Dabo (www.dabodev.com), being developed by two VFP expats.

Sure. A smart concept. Building n-tier database apps both with python and wxpython is an exciting prospect. I not tested the beast however. Want to read a bit more before diving in. Have you?

I'm getting used to the idea of plunging headfirst into wxpython with a vfp mindset, though.

>And, as mentioned above in the discussion, Ironpython: have your .NET and >eat it too.

It sounds like we read the same press, Hank :)

IronPython looks great but still a bit green of course. I'm VERY happy with the current c-based implementation of python. Of course having your python code running on a "C base", a java one (jython) as well as, later, on a ".net" one would make python a definitive "lingua franca", à la VB.

With limited resources to spend on self-training, I fear the idea of getting trapped with tools, whatever their origin or maker (MS, sun or ... open source).

Of course this "python soup" looks nice for quietly designed database-orientated applications. But will there be anything to replace the fox for instant, intensive "ad hoc" database battering? Possibly not.

François
