Tom,

It is indeed a dark day in this city. And I have mixed feelings about the loss of a sports team. As a child in the late 60s & early 70s I went with my Dad to the games at Jarry Park. Those memories are good to hold on to.

As an adult, I would drive to the 'Big O' or watch the game on TV. Even listen to the game on the radio during the years I worked at night. I would intently check their standing in the parer daily. Through thick & thin I supported my team. Then came 1994. The team I supported was going to (perhaps) reward the fans with the long awaited championship. I still believe we would have taken the NLCS title. Whether or not we could take the Yankees ???

But there was a strike :-( They needed more $$$. The revenue that playoffs would have brought to the team would have saved a few players who during the off season would jump ship for still more $$$. From that moment on. There was no baseball in this city for me.

So on one hand the good time of my youth are to be no more. But the loss of a team that let the fans down, well...

Mike

P.S. Our Football team came back. Who knows???
