The standards are very similar for most banks. Typically it must be magnetic ink using E13-B characters and fonts. Most people don't realize that there are actually specifications for the paper weight (24 pound, long grain, MICR bond with opacity of 80% or greater), MICR band, the dollar sign (ANSI X9.7), etc. I really could not be specific. The bank should be contacted to get specific requirements. Sometimes it is even available on line depending on the bank. Almost all banks will do an MICR quality test befre before authorizing the use of automated checks and deposit slips, etc. The real reason banks are getting stricter on enforcing the requirements is due to the Homeland Security Act. Banks have to answer for where money comes from and where it goes to whenever the Federal government wants the information. The idea is to locate monies that go to terrorists or groups that directly or indirectly support terrorists.

>Good info! Hey, since you seem to be an expert on the subject .... do you know if there are similar restrictions on deposit slips? I know ABA standards specify MICR toner, but does it matter or matter as much on the deposit slip?

>Thanks for all the excellent information.
