The real issue is which business object you have specified for the combo box's BindingValueSource business object. This object specifies the currently selected value in the combo box. If I understand your scenario correctly, the BindingValueSource property should be bound to the Employee business object, and the BindingValueSourceMember property should be bound to the Employee Department field.

You understood everything correctly. And I did set the ComboBox as you described. I should mention that the Employees bussiness object is registered as child of Departments bussiness object.

I even tried to creat another bussiness object called DepartmentLookUp to be used as the data source for the department combobox. Even this failed!
