Just tried that. Here is what I found:

When I have all tables on the C drive, a routine in my application takes 3.6 minutes (with Norton Antivirus disabled 3.5 minutes).

When I have all tables on the G drive, the same routine in my application takes 13.1 minutes. (With Norton Antivirus disabled 12.6 minutes)

Note: drive "G" is a folder on the same C drive. The folder is mapped to drive "G" and shared.

Doesn't explain the big time difference between drive C and G!
