I am not sure if you have already resolved your problem, but I might have a workaround for you. The problem may be that it doesn't recognize the newer structures that have come into play since VFP 5. You might be able to just put in a statement like:
copy to newfilename type fox2x

This would create a copy with the older structure that you could perform your mailmerge with.
