Without commercial software, when you change partitions (combine partitions, split partitions, or redimension partitions), all information on the affected partitions is lost.

Some commercial software, like PartitionMagic, allows you to change partitions without losing data. A recent backup is appropriate just in case.

>I have a pc that has a 20Gb drive. It was partitioned to have two logical drives C: (about 17Gb) and D: (about 3Gb). I think I partitioned it but don't remember how and with what. I had XP Pro installed in partition C:. and all kind of old program files. I thought that if I reinstall XP it will clean up the drive and I will have one logical partition. But now, I just noticed that I have two copies of XP installed, one on C, one on D.

Difference in opinions hath cost many millions of lives: for instance, whether flesh be bread, or bread be flesh; whether whistling be a vice or a virtue; whether it be better to kiss a post, or throw it into the fire... (from Gulliver's Travels)
