Thank goodness there are alternatives. I get the feeling that MS is sometimes manipulating the VFP community. It may not really matter, but, I think it helps to know that if they do too much of it, there are Open Source alternatives, Delphi, or even old dBASE that developers can turn to. I don't think anyone wants this to happen. The best thing, in my opinion, is to use VFP with .NET and milk VFP for everything it can do. My guess is that applications built this way can offer many advantages in time-to-market, cost effectiveness, and even features. If MS starts encouraging this type of interop development(by including basic documentation, encouraging articles/conf sessions on the subject) then I'll believe otherwise...
