After you have the scanner hooked up and working, the rest is just a simple lookup operation. The ascii equivalent of the barcode number is an indexed field in a recordset. Locate, Seek or Select (depending on your preferred method) the record in question and display the data in the grid, form fields, or list as desired. The same as if you entered the item number in a textbox and pressed the find button.
