Problem with combo style 2 vfp 6

I want to disable user ability to edit an entry in combobox, if a certain condition exists. With all other controls I do it in Got Focus / Lost Focus events. But with combo I have a problem.

The combo is of style 2. I put the following code in the combo Got Focus method (VFP 6.0):
if lDoNotAllowEdit
   this.enabled = .F.
else
   this.enabled = .T.
endif
dodefault()
But the Lost Focus where I put the following:
this.enabled = .T.
dodefault()
never fires.

Unfortunately, readonly property is ignored in the combobox of style 2.

Any suggestions, please.

Thank you.
