There were some reports in the NGs about that effect. Did not see any since a while though, so my guess is that it's fixed.
IIRC, most popular suspicious conditions were
- Corrupted SCX/SCT
If it happens rather to one particular form than with all forms randomly.
Try USE form1.SCX -> COPY TO form2.SCX -> USE
- Aggressive AV tools, like Norton AntiVirus
(exclude SCX+SCT files from scan, or even better uninstall NAV)
- Hardware trouble, local drive or LAN
- Windows 2000 w/o SP, at least ServicePack 2
- Try if Vfp8 or Vfp9 Public Beta solves the issue
