I have no idea what a GDI printer is. I'm using an HP deskjet 952C.

>>When I'm printing, everything else on the computer slows to a crawl (except the mouse pointer). I have a news ticker tape across the bottom of my screen. It normally takes a headline about 16 seconds to get across my screen. While the printer is printing, it takes over 60 seconds to get across the screen. The ticker tape also slows down while my browser is opening, but only for a second or so.
>>
>>When I click on a pull down menu in IE6 while the printer is going, the menu takes 2-3 seconds to appear as a ghost, then another 2-3 seconds to completely appear, several seconds for my selection to be highlighed, and several seconds for my click to register and start whatever action I've clicked.
>>
>>My printer does use spooling, and the computer slows down during the spooling. It speeds up right after spooling, then slows down when the actual printing starts, and stays slow until the page has finished printing. I've never had a computer slow down during the actual printing.
>>
>>My monitor and printer are the same ones that were used on my old computer, and I didn't have any problem with it.

>>TIA
