Rod,

>>You feel that the WinForms mechanism is slower than you would like. I disagree.

I am trying to stay focused on database apps, by which I mean user interfaces with controls that permit display and edit of data. That is the sort of Winform use that would be relevant in a VFP forum.

>> I presented 2 applications that show that you can create sophistcated, complex UI's with WinFoms.

A graphic painting app and a reader app. Neither of which seem relevant in a VFP forum. If I was encouraging VFP people to try Delphi, I would not use a paint program as a model. I would use a database app. QED.

>>My contention is that these applications have good performance. You disagree.

No. I do not disagree. I say your examples are not database apps and are not relevant in a VFP forum.

>>Your assertion is that Winforms is slow. I provide example of complex UI's. You provide an opinion. Which is fine you can present your opinion.

My assertion is that winforms used as might be expected for a database app, seem slow. You provided two irrelevant examples, plus your own opinion. Which is fine you can present your opinion.

>>It is my point that readers here can now go evaluate 2 examples for themselves or they can just take your opinion.

It is my point that readers here can now go create 2 winforms examples with their own data to see for themselves without accepting anybody's opinion uncritically. I have never asked/expected anybody to accept my opinion uncritically.

FWIW I checked with the chaps who confirm it can take ages to load a winform even on a fast PC. They have implemented all sorts of strategies to make forms load and display quicker. According to them, this is pretty normal for winforms apps. Sounds just like VFP3 in 1995 to me.

Why is this such a big deal? Java 1.0 was slow at UI as well. So was VFP3. The normal hardware churn soon made it a nonevent, except for that wretched VFP3 bug that gradually consumed all resources if you kept requerying a RV.

Perhaps it would help if you let us know what sort of hardware you use when you assess performance?

"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
