That keyboard got me in another way... seeing the unit, with 2 little depressions along the top edge of the white keyboard got me to ask the salesman if it was removebale. Turned out it wasn't.
I thought... just have it on one's lap rather than a 10 pound heat generator.

cheers

hought it would have been a neat feature if it had been removeable>>Hi Victor,

>>As regards that new Toshiba, too bad they didn't put a 7200rpm HD init. Seems it would be about perfect then.

>Yeah that's one thing that got me too. But...you can get any laptop HD, then put it in this little bay-thingy that toshiba sells for like 30 bucks...and then you can slide it in and out whenever you want in either of the 2 front bays - which hold the battery, tv-tunner, dvd-rw device, etc.
>There are only 2 other imperfect things I've run accross with it...for one - the fact that it's gotta make more noise than any other laptop I've had. I guess there are a bunch of fans in the sucker and when they all kick on you know it. I guess that's why they have those nice speakers built into em...ha. And two - considering how big the thing is - it'd be nice if the keyboard on it had the number-pad thing too. I looked at a similar HP model that had the number-pad on the keyboard - but the tv-tuner wasn't built in...it was this bulky thing you had to carry around and it pluged into the back of it on the outside of it (yuk)...plus the HP didn't seem to perform as well either...and the tv-out on the toshiba has 1000 times better...etc etc etc. Anyway I just got a wireless keyboard & mouse for it (I REFUSE to use those darn touch-pad mouses (mice?) anway) and as far as the noise - I just turn up my speakers..hehehe.

>>>Get a laptop that is more of a desktop replacement than it is a laptop.
>>>I purchased one of those 17" widescreen laptops a while back... Toshiba P25 S670. I've had mine for a year & not a single problem with it. Now of course they have the new P25 S676 out (http://www.toshibadirect.com/td/b2c/cmod.to?seg=HHO&coid=-26379&sel=0&rcid=-26367&ccid=1291021). Not only is the thing nice and fast - but also has goodies like Windows XP Media Center OS (thus built in TV tunner and fun-stuff) and the widescreen makes developing in VFP nice. Has a built in DVD burner so backups are a snap and it records all my favorite TV shows & movies too. (bye bye TiVo). Only bad thing is that it's travel weight is like 10 pounds - but its worth it. As far as external HD's...oh yeah those are a must-have. I like the Lacie drives myself... (http://www.lacie.com/products/product.htm?id=10129). Haven't had any problems with the 1TB one they have out...but of course now they've got the 1.6TB one! whoohooo!
>>>Anway I've found this a good combination.

I'd then get a new desktop with the external harddrive. On the infrequent times I need to go to a clients, I take the laptop and the external drive with me. Both the laptop and desktop access the external drive.
