I agree that the machine used to run this stuff can play a big part in how well it performs.
I am working on a small reference application to demonstrate the capabilities of Winforms. I will take the time to run this on various machines of different resource levels. Memory, CPU, etc.
I plan on putting this app online so people can see how well it performs for them. I am doing this with stock WInForms controls so all people can run it out of the box. (I am also using the VFPOLEDB provider with northwind.DBC)
Basically I will come around to show you what you want to see. A small representative Database application with a reasonable UI. I think if we all operate from a set of simple code it will help clarrify a number of issues we are all discussing.
In this same thread I have received comments about Paint.NEt being slow. I dont know what type of hardware was being used.
What do you feel is a represantive machine to look at this stuff on ? I think the minimum machine I have is a PIII with 256mb. I also have machines that scale up from there.
