Does anybody know how to format a phone number and a social security number in a data grid using 'Data formatting expressions'?

The documentation shows examples about numeric fields and datetime fields but nothing for strings. I would like to display my phone (in the datagrids) numbers like this (999) 999-9999 and my social security number like this 999-99-9999.
