John;

You have a point. At the same time if enough people make requests of Microsoft to make VFP more compliant with its other technologies, that could prolong the life of the product! :)

It seems that whenever FoxPro or VFP have been used to interact with other applications, and technologies (Active X components, ADO, Excel, Word, Web Services, and so on), there has been a problem. Service Packs and new versions have promised to improve such matters.

However, it always seems that VFP is not 100% useable. That is why using bandages and jumping through hoops is a way of life for a programmer. Life is much easier when we use the right tool for the job. Waiting for that next service pack or version can be difficult and disappointing.

How many corporations or ISP’s support VFP? Not many I know of. However I can only speak for Silicon Valley.

My mother (who will be 90 in November) has an expression that I like, “You can’t make a silk purse from a Sows ear”! :)

>I swore I wouldn't get involved in another of these threads, but I can't pass up this comment. You can't judge another development platform based on whether or not it works with an outmoded development technology. VFP has its place (I still develop in it) and it is not .net interop. If you want .net, write .net, if you want vfp, write vfp.

I think the more important question is how well vfp will work with it, how developers can re-use their existing VFP investment with things like interop, and is there a place for developers who would still rather code in VFP (interop would again come into play here)...
