Very true that a variety of factors affect this. I rebooted my machine and started the app again and got 6-7 second performance on startup. My guess is that my initial 12 second start delay was due to a mail archive running in the background (which I didn't realize at the time I reported).

Individual times for first-time load can vary greatly, for a variety of apps. Someone reported that it took 12 seconds to load the first time - it took mine about 8 seconds - and my test machine was much slower than the other person's computer.

Not saying that these reported times aren't important, but there can be so many factors on a machine.
