The external exe will continue to run, you could add some code in to shut it down on the exit of your VFP app to check for the external app and close it if thats what you want to do. By getting a Handle onto the window you can then execute a sendmessage command to close the app.

I have done this before somewhere, if your interested I can try and dig out the code.
