I would never recommend you use the default framework. It is intended to be a learning tool. It hasn't been fully tested, and there are some bugs in it. If you opt to go with one of the frameworks that charge, I would recommend using VFE from f1 technologies. I have used it for years and it is wonderful. You can't begin to appreciate the time that has been spent by top notch developers testing and debugging this application. However, having said that, in some cases I would recommend "rolling your own." It's a situational decision, meaning it depends on the criteria. I understand there are some free frameworks also, but I have not looked at them. I have worked with all the best known frameworks, Maxframe, Codemine, Mere Mortals, etc. and I've found I liked VFE much better.
