I remember Kerry when he was involved in Vietnam Veterans Against the War. I respected both his service and his desire to end a war he felt was not in America's best interest. Many honorable people wanted to end the war for very patriotic reasons. Even many of us who were Cold War hawks and who had no love for either Ho or Thieu considered LBJs war a very big mistake.
But I'm afraid Kerry suffers from PTSD. He has been so consistently wrong on national defense issues the entire time he has been in the Senate I find his tough talk now to be political pandering of the worst order. That makes me wonder what he really stands for.
Kerry has made no attempt to defend this record since entering the senate. He has never even metioned it - nor do his apologists. In the 1970s Bush was a shallow frat boy. But he grew up. Kerry has always been a thoughtful, ambitious, intelligent person. But he has also been very very wrong about things that matter a great deal.
