So, that explains why you had a pretty good grasp of what has been happening to this f*+$ing country...

Will try to get a hold of 'All the Trouble in the World"

Some local jokes:

* News Flash *
Since most if not all of the corrupt generals had schooling in our PMA - Philippine Military Academy, word has it that Congress will pass a bill (they are very good at renaming everythings from streets, avenues to airports) to change it to Philippine Millionaires' Academy.

The fact that Congress is investigating the incident (or booboo) in uh 'aid of legislation' (read grandstanding) - isnt this a case of the kettle calling teapot black? (or is it the other way around?)

>I've never been to the Philippines but when I lived in San Francisco in the 70s I knew the Lopez family who were there in a pretty comfortable exile. Henny Lopez was being held hostage along with Benigno Aquino at the time. My girlfriend worked for Don Eugenio and was a schoolmate of most of the major players - including Corey. I think she even knew Bong Bong ( god I loved that name ) She was the exiled wife of a pretty high official in Marcos' government. I got all the good gossip.

>I heard about the Wolfewitz thing from a friend who knows him and it really helped put into perspective the position he was taking on Iraq. That's when I started reading his whitepapers on the middle east and reading Kenneth Pollack and Daniel Pipes.

>By the way, if you can ever find a copy of "All the Trouble in the World" by American journalist and humorist P.J.O'Rourke there is a terrific chapter about the Flower Power Revolution.

>But of course your right - croneyism doesn't have to be run by Marcos and there is still that burning mountain with people living on it and the rich folks just don't seem to care.

>>Having said the above, I would rather have Marcos back! At least to my mind, there was only ONE as against A WHOLE MOB of plunderers! And even if he did take some, he left a lot of legacies like infrastructure, stable govt...

>>WHERE HAVE ALL THE GOOD MEN GONE? WE NEED A HERO!

>>To me, this is terrorism in a different form. Perhaps the US can find ways to help us in this regard? =)
