If you need robust support for accessing HTTP content this function isn't going to work all that well. The problem is that it's not configurable. By default the function probably uses the IE settings so you may get completely different behavior from different machines depending on how they are configured. It doesn't deal with proxy configuration, timeouts and other things that are pretty vital if you stick HTTP functionality into your applications.

To do this you'll need to use something like WinHTTP or the more advanced WinInet functions or a library (plug: West Wind Internet Protocols wrap WinInet - http://www.west-wind.com/wwipstuff.asp) that handles all this for you. You cna do all this yourself with WinHttp but it takes a bit at finding the right settings to tweak and expose.
