The first mode of retrieving new messages at the beginning of UT was by providing a listbox of all the forums where the user can click Go to retrieve new messages from that specific forum. So, at all time, a listbox is showing at the upper right frame for that selection. If no messages are present, the page simply refreshes itself.
The virtual mode was implemented a few years ago and that has been the default mode since a long time now. The virtual mode allows the retrieval of all new messages for all forums at the same time.
For various reasons, the old mode will no longer be supported. In the meantime, we collect information from users who used that old mode to see what benefit they were having from it in order to make sure they don't loose that ability in the virtual mode.
One concern was the ability to retrieve the messages ordered by a list of forums. Presently, in virtual mode, the default forum messages appear on top followed by the order we have created the forum. In the old mode, this doesn't apply as it is only one forum at a time. So, for that specific aspect, we will create the ability for a user to define the order of priority for the forums when reading new messages which would be doable from the account setup under Forums.
The other concern was the ability to retrieve later on new messages from other forums. Sometimes, some users who use the old mode, are only reading new messages from the default forum, and only go in another forum when they desire it. In virtual mode, those messages appear at all. So, users using the virtual mode, usually use the time warp option to go back in time to retrieve those messages again. Some users will use the calendar mode, if it goes too far in time. The time warp will retrieve messages for all forums. The calendar mode will retrieve messages as per one forum only. So, for that concern, I would like to know if something has to be done or if the calendar is suitable enough for that.
