I added the code as suggested to the existing program I ran and got the error :

SQL Server does not exist or access denied.

While I appreciate the security elements to SQL Server, it must admit it isn't easy for me to debug or work out how to change settings to get things to work. From my admin log on, I would have expected to be able to do everything. I'm reading documentation too, to try and work this out, but nothing covers this particular example using ODBC. Still can't work out why I can only see some databases from the ODBC set up wizard.
