Me and my lateral thinking:

At the end of SF movies and TV shows, esp. in the far future, like Star Trek, there's always the disclaimer that all characters are fictitious and bear no relation to anybody living or dead. Well Du-uh! Is the disclaimer necessary or are people living today going to sue for portraying one of their distant descendants, in the future, in a bad light?
