'twasn't I who put forward either Mark Twain or Victor Borge. Probably was Shaw. He also wrote a very interesting article lampooning the simplification of English spelling, over the years (e.g. getting rid of "X" and replacing it with "ks", getting rid of "C" cos it can be "S" or "K", etc. I read it many years ago in the "Readers Digest". I'll bet it can be found on the Web.
