So how IS the job market in southern california !!??? :-)

All this bickering, and the imminent Pres. elections have made me glad that I'm living in a democracy. It seems that in the States you vote for who is the less disagreeable of two very rich men, to rule over you. What kind of democracy is it where you have to choose between just 2 alternatives, and the same 2 every 4 years? It seems just short of of a so-called socialist state where you vote for the one party or nothing.

OK I know in the UK we have 2 predominant parties: Labour and Conservative (Tories), but there's always the Lib. Dems (who usually come 3rd - and lately seem set to maybe eclipse the Tories), UKIP, Plaid Cymru (Welsh), Scottish Nationalists, even Sien Fein, Ulster Unionist, ... et al ... even the "monster raving loony party" and the "Natural Law party" with their "bouncing yogis"!

One party gets a majority and governs but all those other parties can get a seat in parliament. At the moment Labour have a huge majority so rule the roost. But, given a small majority, different parties can get into bed with each other, form wedges, etc. A "hung parliament", where there's no particular majority, arguably makes the best democracy because there's unbiased debate, and party whips don't count for that much.

The US system to me seems like a tennis game where the ball just bounces from one court to the other repeatedly. Oh, yes, you get your odd Texas billionaire who can throw a spanner (wrench) in the works, maybe take some votes off one of the big two, but they never amount to much. Again, note they're RICH men. You have to have money behind you to even campaign.

Now I'm not having a go at you Americans - you can't help the system you're born into - it's just that you don't seem too pleased with the system yourselves; the whole argument is "who's best - Bush or Kerry?"
