>Kerry is just as much an opportunist as Bush. It's politics, it's messy, and both sides do it. It doesn't make it right,

I sure agree with you on this one. I am often struck by how painful it must be for intelligent people who really do understand the complexities of issues to reduce their appeals and their attacks to name-calling, slogans, and sound-bites. I include all the major players in both camps.

My favorite is what Lyndon Johnson used to call "The Pig F*cker Offense" - You call your opponent a pig f*cker and make him deny it. Classy guy, that LBJ.

The last time I was involved in politics was to work for Bobby Kennedy in 1968. My world changed big-time in June of that year.

Charles Hankey

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin
