Kirk;

My dad was a Marine as was my brother. I was in the Air Force. Dad was in China (1939-1940) and “enjoyed the South Pacific” until August of 1945 - places like Okinawa and the like. I will not go into details about any of that and what it did to him and the lives of those whom he touched.

I have always found it interesting how we in the United States shorten words. Take the word “Transistor Radio”. In 1957 people would say, “I am going to listen to my transistor”! I would think, “A transistor is a current amplifying device. You do not listen to it”. I was 15 – can you guess I became an electronics engineer? :)

Now when my dad was a Marine and even my brother (until 1962) the Marines would say, “Semper Fidelis”. It seems like it got shortened during the Vietnam War. It is another one of those things that “bother me”, that is shortening what the full term is.

Maybe sometime in the future it will just be shortned to "SF"? Oh well, such is life! :)

Tom – In lovely Silicon Valley – who “enjoyed” the Vietnam War, was “shot at and missed – shi* at and hit”! That was an expression used by my friend Al Joye.
