George,

>James,
>>
>>After Bush has won, several news organizations recounted all the Florida ballots and they found that Bush still won. So I still don't see how the election was stolen.
>
>The point is that the Supreme Court stopped the recount after the Florida Supreme Court had approved it. The point is that the Florida Secretary of State did everything she could to stop the recount.
>
>Now, while the U.S. Supreme Court was correct by the letter of the law, they were incorrect by the spirit.
>

The Courts job is to interpret laws based on the constitution. They are SUPPOSED to keep personal biases out of their decisions. So when judges start talking about the spirit of the law, they are going beyond their responsibilities.

>I won't argue about the point about the election "being stolen". I will, however, argue the point that we, to this day, don't really know whether or not the outcome was correct.

Here again, the recount was done by news organizations and the outcome did not change. In short, Bush would have won even if the recount would have happened. Also, Gore did not want to recount the entire state. They were cherry picking precincts to try and change the outcome of the race. In this case Gore would have stolen the race if that had been allowed to happen.

>>>>Yes, that's certainly a possibility. I hope that doesn't happen, no matter who wins, but especially if Bush wins. It will be another 4 years of hearing that Bush stole the election, when he didn't.
>>>
>>>Chris,
>>>
>>>Shortly after the election in 2000, I was sitting in a bar at Chicago's O'Hare Airport watching the news about the election. There was someone sitting next to me, who happened to be from Buffalo, NY.
>>>
>>>The "talking head" was talking about the possible re-count in Florida. To myself, I said, "I don't care who wins, just as long as they get it right." The man sitting next to me said, "I agree."
>>>
>>>The problem is that we don't know if they got "...it right". I don't know if the election was "stolen" and neither does anyone else. That's the problem.
