John,
"True" capitalism has no room whatsoever for social insurance, pensions, unions, regulated utilities, regulated communications, holidays and lots of other stuff. True capitalism is a dog-eat-dog affair where the meek perish and the average take whatever scraps are thrown their way.
Conversely, "socialized" does not equate to "socialism". Here in Canada we have health insurance for everyone, called "socialized medicine" by most. While it certainly has some shortcomings it is in my opinion infinitely better than what is on offer in the U.S.
If you belong to the Policeman's Brotherhood then you are not participating in "true" capitalism.
Jim
