>>>Yep, Mike Cross did this song, although I'm not sure if he wrote it. I thought it was a traditional. I saw him do it live at Meredith College in '82 or '83. I never saw a similarity with John Denver, I thought Mike Cross was much hipper.

>>Ok, let's examine that statement. John Denver was one of the all time leading musicians as far as sales. He was RCA's number one artist, grammy winner, world traveler, environmentalist, humanitarian, movie star, etc. He was the first musician invited to Russia after the cold war and also one of, if not the first in china. Now who is the Mike Cross guy?<vbg>

>Not to take anything away from John Denver; When it was reported that during one of our gasoline shortages John Denver had a 6000 gallon gasoline storage tank on his property filled with gasoline, he lost creditability with some folks. That was right after he did a spot on the television about “gasoline conservation”! Must have been that Rocky Mountain High? Or was it, "Don't do what I do - do what I say?"

Sounds like he was trying to conserve 6000 gallons at a time. I never understood the criticism. He was a strong advocate for the environment, yet he knew he would need gas to get places so he put in a tank. Maybe that's too conservative. He should have done nothing, then whined about it when he didn't have any, is that what you think?
