>>>>>Yep, Mike Cross did this song, although I'm not sure if he wrote it. I thought it was a traditional. I saw him do it live at Meredith College in '82 or '83. I never saw a similarity with John Denver, I thought Mike Cross was much hipper.

>>>>Ok, let's examine that statement. John Denver was one of the all time leading musicians as far as ales. He was RCA's number one artist, grammy winner, world traveler, environmentalist, humanitarian, movie star, etc. He was the first musician invited to Russia after the cold war and also one of, if not the first in china. Now who is the Mike Cross guy?<vbg>

>>>Not to take anything away from John Denver; When it was reported that during one of our gasoline shortages John Denver had a 6000 gallon gasoline storage tank on his property filled with gasoline, he lost creditability with some folks. That was right after he did a spot on the television about “gasoline conservation”! Must have been that Rocky Mountain High? Or was it, "Don't do what I do - do what I say?"

>>Sounds like he was trying to conserve 6000 gallons at a time. I never understood the criticism. He was a strong advocate for the environment, yet he knew he would need gas to get places so he put in a tank. Maybe that's too conservative. He should have done nothing, then whined about it when he didn't have any, is that what you think?

>My thoughts are my own! :)

True, and you're entitled to the. I was just trying to figure out what he was supposed to have done wrong. I didn't see it as wrong to try to be prepared for possible shortages. I think that is at the core of our differences. Some saw it as greedy, some saw it as a father and husband taking care of his family. I happened to be in the latter category. John was like the rest of us, imperfect. He had a wonderful voice, but many other frailties, like the rest of us. In this instance, I think he did the right thing - provided for his family. If I had the finances, I'd like to have a gas pump at home too. I could buy gas much cheaper.
